What is Depression?

Depression is more than just feeling sad—it’s a serious mental health condition that impacts your thoughts, emotions, and behaviours and can affect every area of your life. Depression emerges after prolonged periods of ignoring our own needs, neglecting self-care, or pushing ourselves beyond our limits. However, various factors like biology, relationships, and stress also contribute to depression’s onset. Depression therapy is designed to help you understand the root causes, develop coping strategies, and provide a supportive space to work through the heavy emotions tied to depression.

We help you process heavy emotions and reclaim your life.

How We Help

Our focus will be on how depression, as an adaptation, has forced you to really look at what you need and want in your life. It comes with very difficult symptoms that we can support you with while we collaborate to find what is meaningful for you in your life, or what was meaningful, that has been lost. Working through family of origin or recent traumas, betrayals, grief and loss, or societal, life, relationship, or work stressors can help alleviate suffering. These stressors can play a key role in triggering depression, the need to withdraw, and, therefore, the need to care for yourself.

You're not alone. We're here to help.

Every struggle in your life has shaped you into the person you are today. Be thankful for the hard times; they can only make you stronger. – Keanu Reeves.

How We Help

Approaches We Use in Depression Therapy

Depression Therapy offers a path forward by helping you manage symptoms and build effective coping strategies allowing you to move towards a brighter, more balanced future.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

CBT helps identify and change negative thought patterns that contribute to depression. It’s focused on reframing unhelpful thinking and building healthier emotional responses.

Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT)

DBT is designed to help you regulate intense emotions and improve relationships. It incorporates mindfulness and teaches skills for emotional regulation, distress tolerance, and communication.

Trauma-Informed Therapy

Trauma-informed therapy recognizes the impact of past trauma on your current emotional and psychological state. It creates a safe and supportive environment to help you heal.

Mindfulness

MBCT combines mindfulness techniques with cognitive therapy to help you stay present and interrupt the cycle of negative thinking, making it particularly useful for preventing relapse.

Solution-Focused Therapy

This is a short-term approach that emphasizes finding immediate solutions and building on your existing strengths to foster positive change.

Psychodynamic Therapy

This approach delves into the underlying issues, such as past trauma or unresolved conflicts, that may be contributing to depression, helping you gain deeper insight and long-term relief.

Attachment-Based Therapy

ACT helps you accept your feelings rather than trying to fight them, allowing you to focus on what matters most in life, despite the presence of depressive symptoms.

Interpersonal Therapy (IPT)

IPT focuses on improving relationships and social interactions, which can help reduce feelings of loneliness and isolation often associated with depression.
