Clinical supervision is a cornerstone of professional development for therapists, providing ongoing support and guidance throughout their careers. It offers a structured space to refine clinical skills, navigate ethical complexities, and foster personal and professional growth.
Supervision is more than a regulatory requirement—it’s an opportunity to enhance the quality of care provided to clients.
Clinical supervision is essential for therapists at all stages of their careers, offering opportunities to:

The CRPO Requirements
The CRPO requires that Psychotherapy students and Qualified Psychotherapists (RPQ) obtain a minimum of one hour of clinical supervision weekly, in individual, dyadic, or group format. Once members achieve RP status (450 DCC hours, 100 hours supervision), the CRPO suggests 1 hour of supervision biweekly. Once RPs have achieved 1000 hours of direct client contact and 150 hours of clinical supervision, they may apply to practice independently.

Clinical Supervisor
About Kate
Kate is a Registered Psychotherapist (CRPO) and a Canadian Certified Counsellor-Supervisor (CCS) through the CCPA. With a Ph.D. in Research Psychology (Neuropsychoanalysis), she integrates a brain-based, somatic framework where it benefits case conceptualization. As a clinical fellow in Neuropsychoanalysis, Kate applies this knowledge in supervision, particularly when a client presents with primary activation in one of the seven emotional systems.
She supports psychotherapy interns, RPQs, and fully licensed professionals as they develop or refine their professional identity. Kate emphasizes self-reflection, case conceptualization, and skill-building while encouraging intentionality in selecting modalities and techniques that align with the therapist’s goals and the client’s needs.

Supervision Framework & Philosophy
Are you looking to work more deeply with clients?
Kate is an integrative therapist and supervisor who uses a contemporary psychodynamic and analytic lens, focusing on attachment and relational patterns, both past and present. She helps supervisees integrate this lens with other modalities, especially if they aim to engage in deeper, long-term work with clients. This framework not only explores thoughts, feelings, and behaviours (symptoms) but also uncovers past hurt, pain, loss, or grief beneath the surface. Kate’s approach helps clients gain insight into the unconscious processes influencing their current relationships, recognizing patterns to better understand how they show up in their lives.
As an Associate Professor in psychology and psychotherapy for over 20 years, a clinician since 2005, and a clinical supervisor since 2015, Kate believes that effective counselling relies on a therapist’s ability to stay true to themselves while building strong therapeutic relationships. This involves staying present with clients and simultaneously remaining connected to oneself within the clinical setting. Her supervision philosophy focuses on linking theory to practice while helping supervisees reflect on their emotional reactions during sessions, fostering critical reflection on their SEUS (safe and effective use of self).
